Matthew 6:33
After a discussion of the basic needs for life, Jesus, in the Sermon on the Mount, relates the true secret to following Him.
He says:
See First the Kingdom of Heaven and His righteousness, and all these things that we need will be added to our lives.
The pursuit of the things of this world is the wrong goal, even though we need them. Jesus says the Father knows what we need before we ask. He knows, and He will provide.
But, the pursuit of the Kingdom, the rule and will of God, is the goal for this life. We are to pray:
"Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven."
If Jack Taylor were still with us, this is what he would tell us:
"SEEK THE KINGDOM WITH ALL THAT YOU ARE AND ALL THAT YOU HAVE!"
The Kingdom of God is:
Discoverable—look for it, and you will find it!
Declarable—we can preach and teach it, and others can discover it with us.
Demonstrable—just as Jesus showed us what the Kingdom looked like (He was, after all, the personification of the Kingdom of Heaven on earth), we can demonstrate the Kingdom by faith in Him.
Whenever the Kingdom of Heaven collided with the kingdom of this world, the Kingdom of Heaven always won! The sick were healed, and demons were cast out of people. Wherever Jesus went, He pushed back the gates of hell. Ultimately, in His death and resurrection. He defeated, once and for all, sin, Satan, and death.
Remember Jack Taylor today by seeking the Kingdom with all your heart!
